Which intercom brand should I choose: HiLook, Dahua or Akuvox?
HiLook is the best-value option for most homes and small businesses. Dahua suits homes, businesses and apartment projects that want DMSS app access and scalable systems. Akuvox is our premium smart intercom range, with SmartPlus app calling, built-in card access and large Linux or Android touchscreen monitors. We'll recommend the right brand for your entrance and budget in your free quote.
Should I choose a 4-wire, 2-wire, IP or Wi-Fi intercom?
4-wire suits most new single homes. 2-wire is ideal when replacing an old intercom on existing cable. IP with PoE suits new builds, renovations and businesses that want the best video and room to expand. Wi-Fi suits finished homes where running a new cable to the door is difficult. We check your cabling and entrance before recommending a system.
Is a Wi-Fi intercom completely wireless?
No. A Wi-Fi intercom removes the data cable between the door phone and the indoor monitor, but both devices still need a power supply. Strong, reliable Wi-Fi is needed at each device, so we check coverage before recommending it.
Can I answer the intercom and open the door from my phone?
Yes, on supported systems. HiLook and Dahua use their mobile apps, and Akuvox uses the SmartPlus app, so you can see visitors, talk to them and release a connected door lock or gate from anywhere with an internet connection.
Can I upgrade my old intercom without new cabling?
In many cases, yes. If the existing cable is in good condition, a 2-wire system from HiLook, Dahua or Akuvox can run a modern video intercom on the same two wires. We test the cable on site before we quote.
What is the difference between the Akuvox Linux and Android kits?
The Akuvox IP Intercom Linux Kit pairs the E12S door phone with the S562 7-inch Linux monitor, a simple and cost-effective IP system. The Android kits use larger Android 12 monitors: the S563 8-inch with the R20A door phone, or the S567G 10-inch with the R25A door phone. All of them support SmartPlus app calling and door release.
Can an intercom open my driveway gate?
Yes. Compatible intercoms can trigger a gate motor, electric strike or magnetic lock, so you can let visitors in from the indoor monitor or your phone. We use wired, IP or Wi-Fi connections depending on how far the gate is from the house.
How much does an intercom package cost?
Pricing depends on the brand, system type, number of entrances and monitors, cabling and door hardware. Send us your property type, suburb and photos of your entrance or existing intercom, and we'll give you a clear, no-obligation quote.
Are you licensed to install intercoms in Sydney?
Yes. AI Elites Security holds a Master Security Licence and Operative Security Licence, and our technicians have ACMA Open Registration for cabling work. Every installation comes with a 3-year workmanship warranty. For faults with an existing system, visit our maintenance and repairs page.
